Leaving the United States

Posted by Ana on Monday Jun 20, 2011

June 15, we went to go to Canada. We saw lots of horses and cows on the way. We went to the drive-through place to see if we have any weapons or anything. We got some Canada flags, with a leaf on them. Then we drove into Canada, where Daddy and Mommy had their honeymoon. It was a country I’ve never been to. A lot of people in Canada speak french. The guy at the border spoke french. In Georgia a lot of people speak english. There’s a lot of RVs in Canada. And dandelions. The gas in Canada is a lot lower. Dad says this is because the price in Canada is per liter, not per gallon. Mama says it is more expensive in Canada. A lot of people are riding their bikes in Canada and a lot of people ride their bikes in Georgia. There’s more pine trees in Canada. And moose.

Lake McDonald

Posted by Ana on Sunday Jun 19, 2011

June 12 we went back to Glacier. In Glacier we saw lots of animals. We saw two deer, a black bear, mountain goats, a snowshoe hare, and a columbia ground squirrel.

This snowshoe hare was hanging out near a trail

We also heard a bird that sounded like a whistle. Mama said it could have been a flash flood warning. Stella said it could have been a tornado. Mama said it could have been a guy blowing his whistle to his kids because it was time to go home. Or I thought maybe it could be a little kid who just got a new whistle and he’s blowing it for fun.

We went to a visetre center and asked some Qestens. I asked can a moos swim across mc donold lake. And asked a few more Qestens. [Editor’s note: original spelling preserved.]

The answer was yes, people have seen a moose swim across the lake. The ranger said the moose probably swam across because it was scared of a grizzly bear. I asked how much snow does Glacier National Park get per year. I don’t remember the answer. We also asked about the whistle bird. It was a bird. The ranger said it was a thrush.

Hanging out at Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park

And then we went to the lake and had lunch. Before we ate lunch me and Ellie played down by the lake. Mama said take a flat rock and throw it into a lake or a creek or a pond or a deep puddle and it will skip. We played a game to see who could find the best rocks. And we played horses. Ellie had a giant stick, and I had my rainboots on. Ellie would throw it out into the lake, not too far, and I would go out and get it. And now I’m sad my story is done.

Hiking up a Mountain

Posted by Ana on Wednesday Jun 15, 2011

June 9 we hiked up a mountain in Bayview. Daddy says the mountain is called Cape Horn. We saw a moose slash horse. It was a moose slash horse because it was too far away to know if it was a moose or a horse. It was a horse.

Back to the hike up the mountain. It was easy and short. My daddy really wanted us to see the mountain and the views of the lake. We got to see where mountain goats live, but we did not see any mountain goats.

Hiking on Cape Horn, above lake Pend Oreille

Then we got rode our bikes back to the RV and qwickley as posabol chopt up some fruit and made a fruit salad and headed for Bob and Elsie’s*.

Delicious Desserts

Posted by Ana on Tuesday Jun 14, 2011

we went to loiy and searas and olive and roxane by the way roxane and olive are dogs. we had senamen rolse, DQ *cake, pineapple upsidedown cake, pumpkin pie, strawberries dipped in chocolate (though that made them yucky ’cause I don’t like chocolate- I ate plain strawberries). This is the first time in my life (and I’m 7 years old), that I had a desert, a different desert, every day. I liked it a lot and a lot. Lori made them all, except for the DQ cake, to celebrate my mommy’s birthday which isn’t even until June 8 [editor’s note: it’s June 11]. She is a really good cooker. I wish my mom could learn to cook as good as Lori.

(*I had help from my mom with the typing from here)

A Walk With the Poodles

Posted by Ana on Monday Jun 13, 2011

On Sunday June 5th, I got to do something I wanted to do for a long time. I got to walk the poodles, Olive and Roxanne. I got to walk with both poodles on a big path at the same time and it was really fun. Lori pushed my bike while I was walking the dogs.

Me and the poodles

When we got to the top of the hill, I started to ride my bike and Lori took the dogs. We went through a dark tunnel and when we came out we saw the rest of my family and Sarah. They had ridden their bikes up the hill from the other side. We all rode through the tunnel again and took a picture. Then all of us but Ellie, my mom and my dad, all road back down the hill to the parking lot and Lori drove us home. Ellie, my mom, and my dad biked home.

The Poodles

Posted by Ana on Thursday Jun 9, 2011

On June 1, we went to visit Mommy’s friends, Lori and Sarah. At Lori and Sarah’s, we met some poodles, Olive and Roxanne. We played with them for a while before dinner. They are very fluffy and cute. They like to lick your nose. They like to lay around sometimes, and other times they like to be up and wild. They look like little tiny miniature poodles.

With Roxanne and Olive in the Columbia River Gorge

Just like me, they are seven years old. We both can walk. We both can sit down. We both like to eat meat. But they don’t eat tuna, and I like tuna. Poodles can’t chew with their mouth closed, but I can.

I like many things about them: They are very fun, they let us hold them. Well, not Olive. Olive let me hold her for the first time on Sunday. Olive has a smooth tongue, and Roxy has a rough tongue. They like to play.

The funnest thing I have done with them is probably sit with them on my lap.

My 7th Birthday

Posted by Ana on Saturday Jun 4, 2011

We went to Oregon Caves on my 7th birthday. When I woke up, Greta told me to go back to bed because she needed to make my breakfast, which was toast with Grandma’s corncob jelly, a banana, and granola cereal. There were cheerio decorations on the toast and cereal.

Enjoying my birthday breakfast in my birthday crown

In the cave we saw the ghost room. It was called the ghost room because a guy with a candle got scared when he saw the white stalagtites dancing in the candlelight.

The Oregon Caves Chateau

We had a very big lunch at the Oregon Caves Lodge, in an old diner with a long lunch counter that zig-zagged all through the room. It had spinny stools all along it. I had a hot dog, french fries, and an oreo shake.

We opened presents in the RV after the caves. I got my very own credit card on my very own birthday, so I could pick out my own skirt. I got a little ranger bear and it is very cute. It has a ranger hat.

Mendocino Campground

Posted by Ana on Tuesday May 31, 2011

On May 24, we went to a really fun campground that was really fun. We were there for three days. There were many flowers all over the campground.

There were azaleas all around

There were “doaks” which are goats. We named one goat Dolly and the other one Fern. We loved dolly and fern. We fed them grass. Fern had big ears and Dolly didn’t have ears.

With Fern the Doak, which is a goat.

We saw some turkey vultures that were crowding around something.

There was a big field where we played games. We played Capture the Flag. This is how you play. You get a towel. And hide the towel. And then you split into teams and dash into the other team’s side. And try to get the towel. We also played Bite Tag, where you run from Bite the Dog, who is Ellie. Ellie is always Bite.

We found a slug, a banana slug. We had never seen one ever before. It was long and yellow and fat. We went dashing to the RV because we were excited about it.

The banana slug was as big as Stella's hand

We planned a horse race called the Derby. Me, Stella, and Ellie were the horses. I wiped out in the middle of the race behind a tree where no one could see me. I was crying. Ellie came to help me and she told Greta to come, too. She also told Stella, but Stella didn’t come because she was so tired from the racing. Ellie and Greta helped me get up and Greta offered me a piggy back ride but I didn’t want one. I just walked back to the RV. I don’t think I want to play Derby again.

Done.

The Cat Named Midnight

Posted by Ana on Saturday May 28, 2011

We went to Mary’s house. We got out of the RV, and the first thing I saw on the porch was a cat. We saw a nipple, and that means it had a baby. Mary didn’t know the cat’s name so Ellie named her Midnight.

We named this cat Midnight

Olivia is Mary’s daughter. I couldn’t wait to see Olivia, and then I finally saw her. I felt really good when I walked in. Olivia was very nice and so was her friend Chrissy. Chrissy let us help her with her homework.

Sea Lions at Pier 39

Posted by Ana on Friday May 27, 2011

I saw some sea lions. They sounded like a lady singing a very noisy song at the top of her lungs and trying to be very proper although they didn’t sound very proper and they were very loud and like they were having a very loud and noisy party.

That big sea lion looks like he is posing for us.
